School holiday fun – slime

Alright, so it’s school holidays here. We have a 20 month old baby, a three year old boy and a nine year old girl. How could we make this scenario a bit more challenging? Oh, I know! Let’s make it that most of their toys are packed away into boxes strewn all throughout the house in preparation for our big move!

Out of a huge need to entertain the kids, we’re going to play with slime today. It’s cheap and I don’t have to open up a packed box to organise it. Messy? Hell, yeah! But we like that…

Here’s how I make it: get a container to hold the slime. Add a lot of cornflour, mix in the water to make a slimy consistency. I also put in some food colouring. Stir it all together slowly.

Then, let the kids have at it!

Mr 3 was very apprehensive, as he doesn’t like to feel dirty. Of course, once it was time to add water and clean up with a hose, he was right in there, having a ball. I had a water birth with him, and to this day, he is still my water baby. But he wouldn’t go near this activity until clean up time.

Miss 9 absolutely loved the slime and got right into it!

Her and I smeared it around and squeezed the oozy slime through our hands…

And she loved swinging the stringy slime around to make the ground look like there were blue fireworks going off everywhere!

Miss 20 months was also uncertain about this slime, and wanted to suss it out first. But then, she put a tentative hand in it…

Then wandered off grumpily, as her big brother stayed safely away, playing with rocks.

This is a good one to do outside, and you can just hose down the area (and the kids) afterward. That was Mr 3′s favourite part, obviously! A shower inside afterward was also a big help, too.

Miss 9 begged me, ‘can we do this again soon, next time with red?’ Let’s hope next time we do it, the two little ones might be more used to it! If not, never mind…

Thank you Cha Cha, and happy new year to you too!

Crystal, it is very messy, but so much fun.

Naomi, I was deliberately heavy handed with the food colouring, I just couldn't resist, hahah. It really is very easy.
