So much to do, and where to start

As my regular readers would know, we moved house three months ago.

Now that we’ve settled in and done most of our unpacking, I took the time to look at our yard, and gardens.

Welcome to the jungle

It’s quite the jungle out there. This is really overwhelming for me, as I’m not the world’s best gardener. We are very fortunate that we’ve been blessed with a Valencia orange tree

and a Granny Smith apple tree

Frustratingly, they are surrounded by weeds as high as my waist. Grr… Prickly ones. I’ve taken to wearing my fiance’s shoes to go out there, after getting cat paw prickles all through my slippers!

The good news is, look what I discovered on our orange tree!

orange blossoms

Little blossoms! I don’t think they’ll fruit this year, but on looking at a yard full of prickly weeds, it gives me hope that if I give a lot of persistence and work really hard on this yard, there is a promise of amazing things to come.

I made a few other discoveries too!

mint

Mint growing down the side of our driveway! I’m going to start up a herb garden with this mint, right here along our new fence:

I’ve been meaning to start growing some aloe vera again, so I was pleased to find this also at the end of the driveway:

And here’s a picture of our lavender that grows out the front without any care from us, whatsoever (obviously, I already knew about this!)

lavender

Since I know it grows really well here, I plan to get some English lavender growing out the back, as apparently that is the type that is safest to eat. I want to dabble with lavender recipes!

So, all in all, loads of stuff to get stuck into, but I’m pretty excited about how it’s going to turn out. I hope you are all well

I have always wanted to grow an herb garden. I did have rosemary in our last house, but it was in the front yard and people would let their dogs relieve themselves on it, so needless to say I never used it for cooking! LOL

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Love yours…I’m going to take a peek around. :)

I envy you. Not the moving of course, but a nice big back yard. Only have a small patio with a few herbs, and some palms that keep growing out of the pots. But getting out there and pulling weeds out, fertilizing, watering, etc. is very Zen–it is like meditation in its calm-inducing way. Have fun!

Lauren and Holly, I am obsessed with lavender, it just makes me want to sniff it all day long

Thanks Julie, I think it will be beautiful one day too! Baby steps..

Melody, I’m with you on the dog peeing caper! I definitely want it away from any dogs! lol

Matt, we are so grateful to have a large yard, and even though it’s not exactly how we want it, it’s slowly getting there since I wrote this post
