Our fruit garden is planted

Our fruit trees have been waiting for the manure to age, and the great news is, that today our gardener planted them for us! Wanna see?

We have a lovely arc of fruit trees here, and all that dirt you see will soon be a lush, green lawn for the children to play on. I can’t wait until the trees are so huge they can enjoy the shade of them and get lost in their own leafy, fruity little world.

On the other side of the yard is our new emperor mandarin tree (cute puppy a bonus).

For privacy, extra greenery, and a beautiful orange-scented blossom, we have a hedge of murrayas down the fence. We have more to put in, but the last area was too flooded, so that needs to wait. My partner’s Granny used to have these trees at her house, and for him, the scent brings back happy memories of orange lolly-smelling blooms. The label describes it as a ‘formal’ looking hedge, so that appeals to me. I think anything that evokes happy memories will make this place a home.

Here’s a view of the garden from the back fence. The cubby house is now thankfully gone, giving us more space and making it look a whole lot better.

Last, but not least, a photo of Daisy bogarting the camera once again.

All in all, such an improvement on how it was when we first moved in.

Wow! You have done a great job with that yard! It looked like a jungle! And a great size yard to. Now I want to knock down the old garage and put fruit trees there

What a lovely yard you have!! I would just love to have some fruit trees, but our yard is very small and my husband explicitly told me, “NO more trees.” But our neighbors planted some fruit trees and I was amazed at how quickly they actually bore fruit. Just a year or so of growing. And the fruit is amazing!! Enjoy your new digs!! Looks fantastic.

Mmmm. I love citrus trees. They do not grow well here in the wet and cold though. Your backyard really will be lovely when the trees are nice and big.

I am the least gardening type person you could meet, but I love looking at fabulous gardens and want one for myself! It’s inspiring to see what people can do, it makes me excited to do something at home.

That will be great for the kids :) Please keep taking pictures. I live in an apartment building with no green spaces so I like to live vicariously through those with their own fruit/veggie patches!

Muffinmonster, it really did look like a jungle! When I wrote that post, the plan was that I would do it all without any help. My fiance was so ill at the time, he was unable to do anything, and I was trying to suck it up, lol! I actually had a massive panic attack, and my darling rang a gardener, bless him

Haha, Organic Mom! Yep, I’m already eyeing some more fruit trees, and the gardener is trying to remind me I have to stop soon. ‘You’ll have no bloody space!’ he says, LOL!

Marilyn, that’s a shame. Yeah, there’s certain trees I’d love to grow that I don’t think would do well here, such as bananas, or anything tropical like that, so I know what you mean. And I agree, once they’ve grown, it’s going to look lovely. Ditto for the dirt turning into lawn, lol!

Jen, I’ve wished for fruit trees for so long:) Before this, we were renting, so it was only a dream until now.

Yes Marita, a lovely little hidey hole, huh?

Edpilolla, yes, she’s a pretty girl, isn’t she? So glossy and loveable.

Oh Deb, I’m hopeless at gardening, and I’m so glad to have help with such a mammoth task, given that these trees need some years to grow, I want it to be done properly! The good thing is, though, that the gardener is teaching us all about the care of everything as we go, and we’ll need him less and less over time.

Oh thanks so much, Charlotte! I always wonder if I’m boring people with my garden photos, lol! But I will definitely keep posting them since people enjoy them:)

Yes Kristin, we just rolled her in all that manure, and voila! Bigger dog! hahah
