So, you may have just read my post about how we decluttered a bunch of plastic out of our kitchen. Missy 2 spontaneously started posting with a container that has a pour spout on it.

What is posting? Well, it couldn’t be simpler. It’s putting something in a hole. I’m ignoring your snickers by the way, this is a family site! Hehe.
Toddlers love the repetition of putting in one object after another, taking them all out, starting again.
Toddlers like to post letters:

They like coins in slots, fish in tanks…

Or in anything from your Useful Box:

A toddler can learn so much from such a simple task. They enhance their eye-hand co-ordination, they learn about concepts such as ‘in’, ‘out’, ‘through’, ‘push’ and sometimes, ‘open,’ ‘close’. If an adult talks with them about what they are doing, they can reinforce the words as a language experience. Posting can take on a dramatic part in childrens’ play, too.
Do you have anything around the house that your toddlers play posting activities with? The ideas are endless!

My toddler likes to post in the Connect 4 game and cards in and out of a wallet and more recently, money in his money box.

Oh, we used to have Connect four as well, they love it, don’t they? I love your idea about the wallet, I have a bunch of plastic cards I don’t use that would go great in there! I must find a preloved one from around the house, and put it in with the dressups! Great idea!
Both of my kids were/are fans of putting things into tote bags, small purse-like things, and small rolling suitcases. They both like big containers and cram them as full as they can, close it, and carry it to another part of the house where they unload it.

Oh yes, bags are fun for them, too, Marilyn! I love it when they’re this age, they put all these goodies in the bag, take them out, give them to any adults or siblings, then come back, take them to put back in the bag, lol! Keeps them busy!

The fact that she has 4 money boxes which we put separate coin values into (one for gold coins, one for 20′s and 50′s, one for 10′s and one for 5′s) means money box time can be a very time consuming activity for Princess, sorting and “posting”.
And our love of postcards, both sending and receiving, makes posting and retrieving mail very exciting for everyone in this house

I have been in the Pre-school / Toddler world for years then I like too remember. Your post today is so important. Toddlers need and love these skills and we can provide this kind of play at no to little cost to our pocket books. Thanks again for reminding us to keep it simple with Toddlers!
A really simple posting idea is to use an empty tissue box. Toddlers will post for hours (no, hang on – we’re talking about toddlers!!). Toddlers will post for minutes and minutes into a tissue box. Once they are bored of posting in the tissue hole, turn the box over and cut some shapes into the bottom side. They can post into the cut holes, and retrieve their object from the tissue hole! When they are done, throw it away

My 4yr old loves packing bags and suitcases for “trips” and even the occasional “move”. My 10 mo old enjoys emptying my plastics cabinet in the kitchen and the bottom shelf of the pantry…
Anne´s last post ..For the Younger Sprouts
Oh yes, my toddler loves posting things….He has been known to “post” gumnuts in his dad’s shoe, my mobile in a little treasure box he has and his dad shoe inside a kitchen drawer. Maybe he has an obsession with his dad’s shoe, come to think of it! Simple really is best for these little guys isn’t it?!
Gill@OurParklife´s last post ..Cabin Fever
We have a little activity for my younger son on our shelves…a basket filled with containers to open and close and to fill with treasures. He opens, closes, and then, sorts the little treasures into categories of his choosing and puts them into the containers.
looks like your little one had a fun time. Thanks for sharing!

Amandab, separating the coins sounds like so much fun for a little one!
Joyce, I agree, it’s often the simple things that are so important to the little ones, and can easily get overlooked:)
Squigglemum, yes, the tissue boxes are awesome for this! It also reminds me of the good old tupperware shape sorters that are still around
Hi Kelly! This is one of those Decor tupperware rip offs, lol! Perfect for the kids to inherit though.
Anne, I remember as a kid, we kept our dress up clothes in an old suitcase, we loved it!
Gill, I can imagine that’d be painful if Dad forget to check his shoes, LOL! But whatever keeps them happy, huh? hehe
Colleen, that would be so handy for a little one to have handy, what a great idea

Coins into bottles are so much fun. So are buttons.
Although posting sandwiches into grandmas video player, not so great
Aaah, yes, toddlers and posting, time old fun!
Christie – Childhood 101´s last post ..The Universe is Made of Stories
I love the posting into the tupperware jug idea. The opening in the jug is the perfect size. When my kids were toddlers, I made a travel-sized “poster” – a rinsed out cream container with a hole cut into the top. I’d keep fairy stones and rocks in my bag to post. It was the perfect thing to keep them busy whenever we had to wait somewhere.

Marita, omg, I should’ve given an honourable mention to the pop the toast or sandwich into the video/dvd player! LOL. I’ll bet it’s a favourite, though!
Yeah Christie, it’s a classic for toddlers, isn’t it?
Belinda, they really love the homemade versions of this sort of thing, don’t they?
