Cute Sandwich Cutter

I got this cute little gadget when I had a bento splurge recently at J List.

I get so bloody sick of making the same old boring sandwiches everyday. Sure, Missy 10 helps out when she can, but it’s nice to break up the monotony for the kids and I. All you do is press the cutter into a sandwich, and it cuts four bite-sized sandwiches with crusts removed. (The crust that was cut off was so thin, I was hardly wasting any at all)

I love that it’s probably easier than dragging a knife through the bread and ripping it. I love knowing that the kids are more likely to sit down for longer and actually eat what I’ve made them. Most of all, I love the smile it brings to their faces. Plus, it’s so much more fun to open your lunch box to something so cute.

PS – this isn’t a sponsored post, just something I bought myself and loved the idea of.

I know, Louisa! Whenever we have sandwiches I have been getting so bored by it all, LOL! I can’t believe how much this lifts my mood, seeing the kids have so much fun with this

Yeah. It’s a brilliant idea. I’ve seen them a few time but not gotten myself one – thinking I might :)

Very cute. My girls would love them. Mstr 11 would no doubt refuse to eat the flower and the heart shape, the bird would be acceptable only if we called it an eagle *insert eye roll here* LOL.
Love the way it cuts from a full slice like that. I’ve seen others that leave so much wasted sandwich.

LOL Kelli, I can just imagine when my son is that way! At the moment, he’s the biggest nagger for his sangas to be cut this way. I also love how it wastes as little as possible. The Japanese are so clever!

I bought one a while back that cuts a couple dinosaurs out of it. My son gets excited over pb&j dinos. I’ve never seen a kid so prepared to bite the head off of something before.

Priss, I so much want the dino one! And the train and truck one. I remember Mumstrosity did a post about it at her old blog. I was going to link to it, but I don’t think she brought her old content over. But definitely very cute!

I had another parent berate me for “babying” my son at preschool, because I often cut his sandwiches in little bite sized squares or triangles. I say “So?”. Unfortunately sandwiches are the easiest and most portable food to give a young child ….. why not make it fun for the child to eat? I may just source one of these for my sister’s kids …… even the 11 yr old will be thrilled with it. My own adult uni student, and my “getting cool” preteen boy ….. would not be as impressed.

Yeah, I’ve heard some mothers poo-poo this idea too:) Along the lines of, ‘I’m not going to let me children dictate to me, they get what they get, I’m not going to make more work for myself, blah, blah, blah…’ But honestly, I SUCK at cutting sandwiches with a knife, there’s always at least one torn one, lol! So this makes things easier for me as well.

And I’m fully with you on this: why not make it fun?

What a great idea. I usually cut shapes into Oscar’s sandwiches but I waste so much. I’m definitely going to get some of these. Thanks for the post.

Oscar’s Mum, I was doing that too, and the kids loved it. I couldn’t do it everyday because of the waste, like you said. Also, this cuts the sandwich more easily than the cookie cutters, I’m finding

I have quite a bit of bento stuff we use, but the cutters seem to be the most popular. At the moment I do heart and star everything, from sandwiches to cold meat and vegetables using a couple of vege cutters, I keep looking at the sandwich cutters. I think I’m definitely going to need some.

Deb, I’m honoured to be in the presence of another bento junkie *bows* I’m finding my son likes the sandwich cutter best of all, my two girls prefer the sushi stuff.

Thanks for sharing J List-Awesome website, I really like their lego bento box, so cute, if only it weren’t so expensive… I remember when I was on exchange in Japan and my host mum would get up early to make me cute bento-I was so amazed at how much effort she put in, I tried doing the same for myself but gave up after a few tries, just too time consuming but these sandwich cutters look easy!

Jen, it’s my dream to experience a real bento in Japan one day, how yummy that would be! I’m not very good at a lot of the bento techniques yet either, but I’m desperate to learn, as my kids eat so much better whenever I do attempt it, even if it does end up looking like a hot mess. My daughter wants the pokeball bento box.
